On November 6, 2025, a special court in Nagpur, India, delivered a harsh sentence to four men convicted of the gang-rape of a minor girl in Umred last July. The court handed down life imprisonment to Roshan Kargaonkar (29), Gajanan Muruskar (40), Premdas Gathibandhe (38), and Nitesh Arun Phukat (30), and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 on each of them.
The incident occurred on July 19, 2022, when the accused lured the victim to Muruskar's house under the pretext of work, locked her inside, and took turns sexually assaulting her. The perpetrators also threatened to harm the survivor and her family if she disclosed the crime to anyone.
The case was registered at the Umred police station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Sub-divisional police officer Puja Gaikwad conducted the investigation and filed the chargesheet, while special public prosecutor Vijay Kolhe appeared for the government, assisted by police officers Vanita Savarkar and Ramdas Koram.
