A jury in Tampa has convicted four men of first-degree murder in the June 2024 shooting death of rapper Julio Foolio. The defendants, identified as Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy, were found guilty on Friday. Investigators linked the incident to a gang war originating from Jacksonville.
Evidence presented included surveillance footage and text messages suggesting a premeditated ambush. Prosecutors alleged the men followed Jones, whose real name was Charles Jones, to a hotel parking lot near the University of South Florida before carrying out the attack. Three of the four were also convicted of attempted second-degree murder.
The sentencing phase for the convicted individuals is scheduled for May 11. State prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty for all four defendants, emphasizing that their violence has been stopped in the community. The rapper was in Tampa to celebrate his birthday when the fatal incident occurred.
