29 Jan
Summary

- Victim reported abuse 27 years ago, yet no action was taken.
- Couple found guilty of cruel treatment between 1986 and 1991.

Douglas and Barbara Daniel, now aged 80 and 75, were recently found guilty of abusing six children in their care between 1986 and 1991. The couple, who claimed to have fostered 100 children, subjected youngsters to severe mistreatment, including confinement in a makeshift cell and animal pens.
One victim, Lynn, who was placed with the Daniels at age seven in 1991, described her ordeal. She reported the abuse to social workers 27 years prior, but it appears no significant action was taken at the time. Glasgow City Council is now investigating this complaint and Daniel's criminal history.
Douglas Daniel had accumulated 26 convictions for offenses such as housebreaking and car theft between 1965 and 1978, before he and his wife became foster carers. Despite this lengthy record, they were entrusted with vulnerable children, a situation one sheriff described as remarkable.
