A former children's home worker, aged 84, has received an 11-year prison sentence for historical child abuse offenses committed decades ago.
George Hendry, formerly of Serpentine Parade in north Belfast, was convicted at Belfast Crown Court of four counts of indecent assault and two other serious sexual offenses against a boy under the age of 16. The court heard the offenses spanned a 14-week period between November 1980 and February 1981.
These grave offenses took place while Hendry held the position of deputy manager at Palmerston Assessment Centre. This center was part of the Eastern Health and Social Services Board's network of children's homes located in east Belfast, highlighting a serious breach of trust within the care system.
