Ex-BBC DJ Jailed for Child Sex Offender Rule Breach
9 Apr
Summary
- Former BBC presenter jailed for failing to report child presence.
- Assaulted five girls and possessed indecent images in 2012.
- Breached offender rules multiple times, facing prison again.

Peter Rowell, a former presenter for BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Radio Somerset, has been returned to prison for 24 weeks. This follows his admission to breaching sex offender notification requirements, specifically failing to notify Gwent Police within three days of being present at an address where a child resided. These recent offences occurred between November 1, 2025, and March 26, 2026.
Rowell, who previously worked for ITV West, has a history of serious offences. In 2012, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment for 12 indecent assaults on five girls under 16, as well as charges related to making and possessing indecent images. He initially met his victims in the 1980s while DJing for GWR FM.
This latest imprisonment comes after a June 2025 sentencing where Rowell received a 35-week sentence, suspended for 24 months, for similar breaches between December 2022 and April 2025. During that period, he also admitted to breaching a sexual harm prevention order by having unsupervised contact with a girl under 16. His earlier disappearance in March 2011 led to the discovery of over 400 indecent images of children on his computer.
