- The attacker had a history of 65 previous offenses.
- The victim's injuries were suspected but unconfirmed.

A man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison following a brutal assault at a campsite in Gateshead's Watergate Forest Park. The attack was halted by two passers-by who intervened, stating they feared the victim was being killed.
Andreas Michael, 50, was found pinning his partner to the ground and raining punches down on her face. Police had previously intervened the day before due to an argument between the couple. Michael admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm and breaching a suspended prison sentence for burglary.
Despite the victim's suspected fractured eye socket and jaw, her injuries could not be officially confirmed due to her lack of cooperation with prosecutors. Michael, who has 65 previous offenses on his record, received a 21-month sentence for the attack and an additional two years for breaching his suspended sentence.
