- Mandatory FMGE exam was bypassed using fake documents.
- Maharashtra cyber police investigating 22 foreign medical degree holders.
Maharashtra nodal cyber police have apprehended two individuals for their alleged involvement in a scam involving forged documents to secure registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council. The arrested suspects, Varun Akhade and Sanket Unhale, are accused of obtaining medical registration despite not clearing the mandatory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
An investigation was initiated on August 7 when the Maharashtra Medical Council reported discrepancies in the online profiles of several foreign medical graduates. It was discovered that these candidates, holding degrees from foreign institutions, had not passed the FMGE screening examination, a prerequisite for practicing medicine in India.
The accused reportedly accessed the Maharashtra Medical Council's online portal without authorization. They allegedly created login profiles and submitted forged or altered documents to obtain registration. Police are investigating financial transactions and the source of a credit card allegedly used in the portal access. The court has remanded the two arrested individuals to four days of police custody.
