Race abuse trial halted pending mental fitness assessment
22 Apr
Summary
- Football trial adjourned for mental fitness assessment.
- Accused allegedly made racially aggravated comments.
- Player Semenyo was playing for Bournemouth against Liverpool.

A trial involving a supporter accused of racially abusing footballer Antoine Semenyo has been adjourned. Mark Mogan, 47, faces charges of racially aggravated behaviour during a Liverpool vs. Bournemouth match on August 15, 2026. His defense stated that a psychiatric expert found him unfit to stand trial due to complex presentations and communication difficulties.
The case was scheduled for Liverpool Magistrates' Court, but Semenyo, who has since joined Manchester City, was not required to give evidence as the trial was postponed. The District Judge has adjourned the case until September to allow for a further psychiatric report to be obtained by the prosecution. Mogan has been granted bail with strict conditions.
