This investigation revisits information connected to Mansfield, whose family lived in Hernando County. In the early 1980s, a search of family property uncovered four bodies. While three victims have been identified, genetic genealogy is now assisting in identifying the fourth victim and finding their relatives.
Billy Mansfield, who is serving multiple life sentences, had previously suggested more victims might be located in Hernando, Pasco, and Pinellas counties. The sheriff's office reopened the case three years ago, reviewing files and interviewing Mansfield, who confessed in January 2026 to the 1980 murder of Carol Ann Barrett in Jacksonville.
