Summary
- A Florida mother surrendered to police on January 23, 2026.
- Her nonverbal 6-year-old son with autism was found in critical condition.
- The child sustained severe injuries including brain bleeding and organ lacerations.

Cynthia Elaine Hernandez, 32, surrendered to authorities on January 23, 2026, following severe injuries to her 6-year-old nonverbal son, Mason. The child was discovered in cardiac arrest on January 9, 2026, at their North Miami Beach home. He survived but suffered significant trauma, including brain bleeding and organ damage.
Hernandez's boyfriend, Daniel Eduardo Romero, 34, was arrested on January 11, 2026. Authorities allege Romero provided inconsistent explanations for Mason's injuries, initially blaming a bicycle accident before admitting to other scenarios. Hernandez reportedly corroborated false stories at Romero's direction.
Hernandez informed investigators that she believed Romero, who allegedly grew frustrated with Mason's behavior and their infant's crying, caused the abuse. Romero has prior domestic violence convictions. Both Hernandez and Romero are currently in custody, facing charges including child abuse and providing false information to law enforcement.
