In Florida, Angel Gabriel Cuz Choc received a death sentence on February 6, 2026, for the brutal April 2024 murders of his girlfriend, Amalia Coc Choc De Pec, and her 4-year-old daughter, Estrella. A Hillsborough County jury convicted Cuz Choc of first-degree murder, kidnapping, and aggravated child abuse in October 2025.
The prosecution argued for the death penalty, citing the "heinous, atrocious, and cruel nature" of the crimes. Surveillance footage presented during the trial showed Cuz Choc chasing Amalia hours before the attack. He is accused of beating and stabbing Amalia outside their Dover home and then entering to stab Estrella in the bathtub.
After the killings, Cuz Choc was seen fleeing the scene on surveillance cameras and was later found hiding in dense brush. He confessed to "hurting" both Amalia and Estrella. During his trial, he claimed to have no recollection of the events. Jurors voted ten to two in favor of the death penalty for each victim.
