Ludwin Borgen, a 49-year-old man from Apollo Beach, Florida, was convicted by a federal jury of distributing fentanyl, leading to a user's death. The conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years, with a maximum potential of life imprisonment. His sentencing is set for June 16.
Evidence revealed Borgen, a known drug dealer in the Tampa Bay area, had supplied the unidentified victim with fentanyl multiple times. On March 28, 2022, the victim arranged to purchase fentanyl from Borgen the following day.
Following the purchase at a pharmacy, the victim injected the fentanyl that evening while in a bathtub. She subsequently drowned while intoxicated. A friend discovered her body in the bathtub with a syringe nearby.
Toxicology reports confirmed a lethal concentration of fentanyl in the victim's system. Investigators from multiple agencies identified Borgen as the supplier. A search of his property yielded fentanyl, baggies, syringes, and a scale.
