Fitness Stars Fueling Secret Steroid Market
12 Jul
Summary
- Fitness influencers promote steroids via a private Telegram network.
- A UK wellness brand's ambassadors are actively involved in illegal sales.
- Experts warn of blurred lines between fitness culture and drug promotion.

A clandestine steroid market is being operated by fitness influencers who publicly represent a global wellness brand. These individuals, boasting a combined following of over 180,000 on platforms like TikTok and Instagram, are promoting anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs through an underground Telegram network. Initially known as Rohm, the group has rebranded as Anabolic By Nature.
This network not only advertises anabolic steroids but also peptides, testosterone replacement therapy, and prescription medications such as human growth hormone and weight-loss drugs. The founder of the wellness brand, Darren Wicks, is reportedly leading the Telegram group, offering advice on discreet transport of these substances and managing sales. Gencore Global, the associated UK-based company, denies selling steroids, while acknowledging crossover between communities.
Experts note that social media is significantly normalizing steroid culture, blurring the lines between fitness and illegal drug promotion. This trend is particularly concerning as individuals may perceive steroid use as part of a general fitness program for wellbeing, rather than recognizing the associated health risks. The Telegram groups involved in this operation are repeatedly shut down and reformed, maintaining a continuous presence despite ongoing enforcement challenges.
