The trial for the murder of former Argentina rugby international Federico Aramburu opened in Paris on Monday. Aramburu, who earned 22 caps for Argentina, was shot dead on March 19, 2022, after a dispute escalated near Boulevard Saint-Germain.
Two individuals, Loik Le Priol and Romain Bouvier, formerly associated with a violent far-right group, are facing charges. Le Priol is accused of firing the fatal shots, while Bouvier faces attempted murder charges for allegedly firing a weapon during the incident. Both are currently serving prison sentences for aggravated assault.
The altercation reportedly began on the terrace of the Mabillon cafe and continued outside. Investigators state that after security intervened, Bouvier fired shots at Aramburu, followed by Le Priol. Aramburu died at the scene. A third defendant, Lyson Rochemir, is also on trial for attempted murder, and Antony Sorrentino is accused of aiding Bouvier's evasion.
Le Priol was apprehended in Hungary attempting to cross into Ukraine, while Bouvier was arrested in the Sarthe region. The trial is scheduled to conclude on September 25, with the verdict expected the same day. Le Priol, Bouvier, and Rochemir could face life sentences.
