In Azamgarh, a 17-year-old boy has reported his father to the Ahraula police, alleging assault for opposing his seventh marriage. The father, 55-year-old Amarjeet Maurya, was reportedly planning to marry again despite having been married six times previously. His relatives revealed that his first wife died shortly after their wedding, and his second wife passed away after bearing three daughters. The other four wives, including the boy's mother, reportedly sought separation due to his refusal to transfer land ownership to them.
The son explained that his father had forced him into labor to repay debts incurred from mortgaging their parental land. He intervened to prevent his father's seventh marriage, concerned that neighbors were misleading him into borrowing more money, which could jeopardize their 3.5 bigha of land. When he attempted to discuss this, his father allegedly attacked him. Police are investigating the property dispute between father and son, with further action to be determined after the probe's completion.
