Rendell Hoagland pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and other charges in the death of his 12-year-old daughter, Malinda. Prosecutors revealed that Malinda was found unconscious in May 2024, weighing only 50 lbs. and suffering from multiple broken bones, leading to her death in the hospital. Hoagland admitted to years of systematic abuse, including confining his daughter to furniture and berating her. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Malinda had been removed from school and placed in a home cyber school months prior to her death. Evidence from phone searches showed videos of Malinda shackled and mistreated by both her father and his girlfriend, Cindy Warren. Warren also faces charges and is scheduled for trial in June. Malinda's half-sisters expressed shock, stating they were kept in the dark about her suffering.
