Chaos erupted in an Arizona courtroom on Wednesday when Alberto Ontiveros-Sanchez, 55, attacked Abel Uribe, 33, during Uribe's sentencing hearing. Uribe had pleaded guilty to the murder of Ontiveros-Sanchez's son-in-law, Army Captain David Navidad-Parra, 27, who was found shot to death on December 17, 2022.
Ontiveros-Sanchez reportedly attacked Uribe after seeing him laugh and snicker while he returned to his seat from delivering his victim impact statement. Courtroom video captured the assault, which led to Ontiveros-Sanchez being restrained and subsequently arrested.
Despite expressing understanding of Ontiveros-Sanchez's emotions, the judge ruled that violence is unacceptable in court. Ontiveros-Sanchez was released but faces charges including aggravated assault. Uribe was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
