Summary
- Father convicted of murdering five-week-old baby with 40+ rib fractures.
- Baby suffered catastrophic brain injury and leg fractures before death.
- Mother found guilty of causing or allowing child's death.

Sean Jefferson, 35, has been found guilty of murdering his five-week-old daughter, Darcy-Leigh, who died on March 29, 2022, after suffering a catastrophic brain injury and over 40 rib fractures. The trial at Stafford Crown Court revealed the infant also sustained fractures to both legs over a 10-day period prior to her death. Jefferson was convicted of murder and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Darcy-Leigh's mother, Amy Clark, 34, was found guilty of causing or allowing her child's death and two counts of causing or allowing serious harm. Charges of murder or manslaughter against her were dropped. The court heard that Darcy-Leigh, born prematurely on February 20, 2022, was subjected to repeated physical assaults. The fatal head injury was determined to have occurred on March 27, 2022, likely from violent shaking or impact.
During the trial, prosecutors highlighted the contrast between the mother's outward appearance of control and her hidden struggles with alcohol and drug use. Evidence suggested both parents were using drugs during the baby's short life. The judge, Mrs Justice Brunner KC, acknowledged the difficult nature of the case and thanked the jury for their dedication before scheduling a sentencing date.
