A father has admitted to causing the death of his six-week-old son, Huxley Sayle, who suffered a fatal traumatic head injury. Peter Sayle, 32, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the fifth day of his trial at Preston Crown Court. He had previously denied any wrongdoing, suggesting the injuries were a result of him performing CPR.
The court heard that baby Huxley was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of June 14, 2022, unresponsive and with a head injury. Medical experts concluded that Huxley had been violently shaken, suffering multiple skull and brain injuries, as well as rib fractures inconsistent with CPR.
Investigators found that Sayle had searched online for terms related to dealing with frustration and anger, and his baby's crying and sleeping. These searches were conducted after Huxley's birth. Sayle was initially arrested on suspicion of wounding and later rearrested on suspicion of murder before his guilty plea to manslaughter was accepted by the prosecution.
