In Cranston, Rhode Island, Demitri Sousa, 28, of Seekonk, Massachusetts, has been charged with murder, unlawful firearm use, and unlicensed pistol possession. Police allege Sousa fatally shot Javon Lawson, 35, on the evening of February 26th, possibly stemming from a dispute over a woman.
Following the shooting, Sousa reportedly fled the scene in a white Infinity sedan, which was later detected by license plate readers in Fall River and Westport. Early on February 27th, around 12:20 a.m., Sousa allegedly crashed into another vehicle in Swansea while traveling at high speed.
This second collision tragically claimed the lives of the Carcasis, a couple who were reportedly traveling home. Their vehicle was struck with such force that it became fully engulfed in flames. Despite immediate rescue efforts, they were pronounced dead at the scene. Sousa, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was hospitalized and ordered held without bail.
