Tragedy struck outside Palmetto Elementary School when 34-year-old Eboni Anderson was fatally shot. The incident caused the campus to enter a hard lockdown, affecting all 550 students who were relocated to Bear Creek Middle School.
Law enforcement identified 39-year-old Christopher Ates as the suspect. He was apprehended in Houston County on charges unrelated to the shooting, including cruelty to children and fleeing from police. He faces additional warrants from Fulton County.
Principal Jacqueline Bowens communicated that the shooting appeared to stem from a domestic dispute and reassured the community that no students or staff were involved or endangered. Classes at Palmetto Elementary resumed the day after the incident, with enhanced support services available for students and faculty.
