A police operation investigating a stolen vehicle in Chicago's West Ridge neighborhood concluded tragically Tuesday night with a fatal shooting. Officers approached a dark sedan that had stopped near the stolen car, prompting one occupant to flee on foot while the driver re-entered the sedan.
When the driver refused commands to exit the vehicle, a struggle ensued. Police reported that the man accelerated, dragging an officer who then discharged their firearm, striking the suspect. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a parked car.
The wounded man was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. An officer sustained minor injuries and received hospital treatment.
