Man Charged Police After Knife Threat, Fatally Shot

An incident in Heidelberg early Sunday morning resulted in a fatal police shooting. Around 12 a.m., authorities received a 911 call from a man who claimed to be armed and threatened harm to himself and others.
Officers from Heidelberg and Scott Township arrived at the scene on Washington Street. They ordered the armed man, who was wielding a knife, to drop the weapon. He refused and advanced toward the officers.
Despite a taser being deployed, the man continued his advance. A Scott Township officer then fired their weapon multiple times. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Allegheny County Police Department's Homicide Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
