On October 25, 2026, at approximately midnight, Doraville Police officers responded to a report of gunfire near a restaurant located on Buford Highway. The incident stemmed from a personal dispute that resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two others.
Upon arrival, officers initiated a traffic stop on a blue pickup truck from which they apprehended Daniel Roman-Cortez. He allegedly confessed to the shooting, stating, "I shot him, I killed him." The victim, Pablo Gutierrez-Gallegos, 44, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by paramedics.
Two additional individuals, who were inside the restaurant at the time, suffered minor injuries from broken glass. They received on-site treatment and were not seriously harmed. The Doraville Police Department, with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, is continuing their investigation into the fatal shooting.
Roman-Cortez reportedly told investigators that the shooting occurred because Gutierrez-Gallegos was involved with his wife. He is currently held at the DeKalb County Jail without bond and faces charges including murder, six counts of aggravated assault, and criminal damage to property. The victim's family has established a GoFundMe to help repatriate his remains to Mexico for burial.
