Summary
- Construction worker fatally attacked for refusing cigarettes.
- Assailants used logs and iron rods in the brutal assault.
- Four suspects, including a minor, were arrested shortly after.
A tragic incident unfolded in Nolambur on Saturday night when a 54-year-old construction worker, Abhijeeth, from West Bengal, was beaten to death. The motive for the brutal assault appears to be his refusal to share cigarettes with a group of four individuals, including a 17-year-old boy.
The suspects, reportedly intoxicated, approached Abhijeeth as he stood outside his construction site. An argument ensued after he declined their request for cigarettes. The situation quickly escalated, with the assailants allegedly using logs and iron rods found nearby to attack Abhijeeth after he fell to the ground.
Other workers at the site rushed to his aid upon hearing his screams, but the attackers fled. Abhijeeth was transported to a private hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police registered a murder case and have since arrested the four individuals involved. The three adult suspects were remanded in judicial custody, while the minor was sent to a government observation home.
