A family of seven relatives from Gujarat's Bhavnagar district was apprehended by Jhansi railway police on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in train passenger thefts. The group, which included individuals ranging in age from 20 to 45, reportedly traveled together on trains to avoid raising suspicion.
Authorities stated that the accused would specifically target passengers who were asleep or had left their belongings unattended. They focused particularly on women's bags, stealing cash and jewelry. The gang operated on trains traveling towards Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Bareilly, and occasionally Ayodhya.
During the arrest near the Jhansi railway station, police recovered two bracelets, a mangalsutra, a ring, and approximately Rs 5,000 in cash. The stolen items were either sold or transported to their destinations. Investigations are underway to connect the recovered valuables to previously registered theft cases.
