Sitapur police successfully arrested six members of a gang that posed as law enforcement to deceive commuters. The accused, identified as Sunny Rajput, Rajan alias Belua, Rohit, Brijesh, Rishabh Gihar, and Kunal, operated across several districts. They have been remanded to jail.
During their interrogation, the criminals confessed to wearing police uniforms and adopting authentic haircuts to appear legitimate. They would solicit rides from motorcyclists, and once on the vehicle, they would use blades to cut pockets and steal cash. This deceitful tactic allowed them to commit several thefts.
Notable incidents included thefts on November 27, 2025, in Maholi town and January 30 near Gobarepurwa bridge, where approximately Rs 40,000 was stolen from a bank employee. The arrest followed a complaint from the bank employee, leading to CCTV analysis and the eventual identification and capture of the gang members.
Investigations revealed that the arrested individuals are related and originally from Kannauj and Farrukhabad districts. They had been traveling to various districts to carry out their crimes, making them difficult to track. Police have also recovered Rs 20,200 in cash, pickpocketing blades, a pistol, and the vehicle used in their criminal activities.
