Ebonyi State Police have apprehended Ugwumba Enyinnaya, who is accused of posing as a lawyer and practicing for over 11 years. The arrest occurred after a formal petition alleged that Enyinnaya obtained money through false pretenses.
According to police reports released on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Enyinnaya allegedly collected ₦650,000 from a client, Chukwu David, in March 2026. This sum was reportedly for services related to processing and approving a street naming in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
An investigation into Enyinnaya's apartment led to the discovery of significant evidence. Recovered items included a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal, a barrister's robe and wig, and purported LL.B. and LL.M. certificates from Enugu State University of Science and Technology. He also had court judgments and legal documents he allegedly prepared himself.
During interrogation, Enyinnaya reportedly confessed to not being a qualified lawyer. The Commissioner of Police urged the public to verify the credentials of legal service providers and report suspicious activities. The suspect has been charged to court.
