Mumbai crime branch officers have arrested a Jaipur-based businessman and an individual impersonating an IPS officer in a recent fraud case. The arrests followed a complaint from a Gujarat businessman who alleged he was swindled out of Rs 16 lakh.
The accused allegedly posed as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to convince the complainant that they could recover money owed to him by a builder. The impostor even showed photographs in police uniform to bolster his claims.
Investigators confirmed the scam after a retired police inspector identified the individual as someone who had a police uniform custom-made. The complainant alleged paying a total of Rs 15,90,532 through various means for the fraudulent service.
The crime branch is actively seeking other potential victims who may have been similarly deceived by this operation, urging them to come forward and file complaints.
