Fake Instagram Account Used for Extortion and Harassment

A case was registered by Cyber Police East after a youth from Sushant Lok Phase-2 alleged his identity was being misused. An unknown person created a fake Instagram account impersonating the complainant to damage his reputation and harass him. The imposter also reportedly contacted the victim to demand money.

This misuse of his identity on a popular social media platform has caused the victim significant mental distress. Police are currently conducting technical analysis, including IP logs, to trace the origin of the fake account and identify the perpetrator. Efforts are also underway to collaborate with the social media platform for necessary data. Strict action will be taken against the accused once identified, with further investigation ongoing.
