Fake Cops & Journalists Extort Man in Karnataka

Four individuals in Karnataka's Belagavi district have been apprehended for allegedly posing as journalists and police officers to extort money. The accused purportedly threatened a man with a false ganja case and demanded between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, warning of imprisonment in Hindalga Central Jail.
The victim reportedly paid Rs 60,000 cash to the group. When he could not arrange the remaining sum, the accused allegedly uploaded a video to a social media platform named "GD TV" to increase pressure.
Following a complaint, police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A special investigation team successfully traced and arrested the four suspects in Belagavi. The arrested individuals were identified as Kallappa Basavanni Malaj, Mallikarjun Siddappa Julfi, Prithviraj Narayan Chauhan, and David Jacob Tangeral.
Authorities seized a car, a motorcycle, two mobile phones, and Rs 34,000 in cash. The accused have been presented in court and remanded to judicial custody, with further investigations ongoing.
