Chittorgarh police have apprehended three individuals for their alleged involvement in a sham marriage scheme that defrauded a family of Rs 2.4 lakh. The incident came to light when a complainant from Madhya Pradesh reported being approached by an individual who offered to arrange a bride for a significant sum.
The family met the alleged bride, Shilpi Kumari Jatav, and her purported relatives on April 13 in Chittorgarh. Following the marriage formalities, which were completed at the collectorate, the family paid the agreed-upon amount. Suspicion arose later when the bride attempted to abscond with another man while visiting a temple.
This attempted escape led to a confrontation that unraveled the alleged fraud. The arrested individuals include Shilpi, a native of Uttar Pradesh residing in Bhilwara, her husband Vishal Suwalka, and another alleged gang member, Suresh. Police are actively pursuing leads to arrest other members of the suspected gang as the investigation continues.
