- Conmen used fake job interviews to create a facade of legitimacy.
A sophisticated scam unfolded recently in Dahod, where criminals created a convincing facade of a small finance bank branch. The con artists rented a commercial space, furnished it to resemble a bank, and even hired staff through fake job interviews to lure their target.
Jeweler Jay Gandhi was approached by a man claiming the bank wished to donate gold. Subsequently, a 'manager' arranged a meeting for Gandhi to deliver gold biscuits valued at Rs 28.6 lakh for cash payment.
Upon arriving at the fake branch, Gandhi was met with a seemingly operational bank environment. The supposed manager took the gold, promising payment, but never returned. The perpetrators had fled through a separate exit, leaving Gandhi with a bag of blank papers and the realization he had been defrauded.
