17 Oct
Summary
- Food stock worth ₹48 lakh seized across Thane and Pune districts.
- FIR filed against officials from Reliance, Blinkit, and Zomato Hyperpure.
- Expired goods were allegedly diverted and resold to consumers.
In a significant crackdown, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized food products valued at ₹48,09,924 across Thane and Pune districts. Licenses for five establishments have been suspended following the operation.
Authorities have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against officials from Reliance Consumer Products, Reliance Retail, Blinkit, and Hyperpure by Zomato. The FIR, registered at Shanti Nagar police station in Thane, names ten individuals, including senior employees and disposal agency operators.
Preliminary investigations revealed that expired, damaged, and customer-rejected food items, intended for destruction, were allegedly rerouted through disposal agencies and unlicensed sorting yards. These products were then sold to retailers, with expired and leaking items found for sale without proper documentation.
The FDA's seven-member teams inventoried and seized stock, collected samples, and initiated proceedings against those involved. The action underscores a concerted effort to curb the illegal sale of compromised food products.
