10 Mar
Summary
- Nearly 1.5 lakh kg of expired Amul food was destroyed.
- Warehouse operator allegedly erased expiry dates for resale.
- Expired products included noodles, ketchup, and energy drinks.

Food Safety Department teams in Jaipur recently destroyed approximately 1.5 lakh kilograms of expired Amul food. This action followed a raid on a warehouse in the Kho Nagoriyan area, prompted by a complaint received via the state government's 181 helpline. The operation uncovered thousands of cartons of non-dairy Amul-branded products past their expiration dates.
Investigators discovered that the operator of the warehouse, identified as Gagan Ahuja, was allegedly using chemicals like thinner and acetone to remove the original expiry dates from nearly 3,000 cartons. The intent was reportedly to print new dates and repackage the expired items for resale. The warehouse's license was also found to have expired.
The disposal of the seized goods, which included items like noodles, ketchup, mayonnaise, and energy drinks, took four days and required 27 trucks. The firm bore the expense of destroying the stock, which was declared unfit for consumption. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
