The court ruled that the leaked data constituted national core technology and that the defendant conspired in the breach.
The leaked memory chip manufacturing technology was reportedly transferred to Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT). Authorities stated this incident played a role in China's development of high-bandwidth memory (HBM), a vital component for artificial intelligence computing. The defendant allegedly received approximately 2.9 billion won ($1.96 million) over six years from CXMT for his actions.
