Court Orders New Mental Health Exam for Train Killing Accused
26 Mar
Summary
- Accused former RPF constable to be moved again for mental health evaluation.
- Bail plea filed citing 'white matter disease' prompts court's decision.
- Court seeks specific opinion on fitness to stand trial and defend.

A Mumbai court has directed prison authorities to move former RPF constable Chetan Singh Choudhary, who is accused of a fatal 2023 train shooting, back to Thane mental hospital. This move is to further evaluate his mental health and fitness to stand trial.
Choudhary's bail plea, filed due to a claimed 'white matter disease,' initiated the court's renewed scrutiny. Previously, he was at the Thane Regional Mental Hospital from February 20, 2025, to July 12, 2025. A recent jail medical report from December 18 last year indicated his physical condition was stable.
The court specifically requested a detailed report from the Thane Mental Hospital, seeking a precise opinion on whether Choudhary is fit to face trial and capable of conducting his defense. The trial, involving witness testimonies, is ongoing.
Choudhary is accused of killing four people, including his colleague, on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express near Palghar in July 2023. He was apprehended shortly after the incident.
