Summary
- Former officer jailed for sex with domestic violence victim.
- Targeted vulnerable women for sex while on duty.
- Sentenced to over two years for misconduct charges.
James Stillman, a 32-year-old former police officer with Devon and Cornwall Police, received a two-year and four-month prison sentence for three counts of misconduct in a public office. The court heard that Stillman targeted two vulnerable women for sexual exploitation. While conducting a welfare check on a domestic violence victim last summer, he initiated sexual activity with her.
Previously, Stillman had also used his position to obtain a teenager's phone number, sending her explicit messages and requesting nude pictures. He attempted to arrange a meeting with her, suggesting a date when his wife and child were away. The teenager repeatedly avoided him.
The judge described Stillman's actions as predatory behavior and a complete dereliction of duty, exploiting the trust placed in him. The domestic violence victim reported that the incident left her with nightmares and a loss of confidence in the police. Stillman, who was married with a child at the time, has resigned from the force and is subject to an Accelerated Misconduct Hearing.
