A former police officer and federation secretary, Jamie Harrison, has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for defrauding colleagues. Harrison, 55, was found guilty of 15 counts of fraud by abuse of position while serving as secretary and treasurer for the West Mercia Police Federation.
Between 2010 and 2018, Harrison made over 100 fraudulent claims, totalling £12,699.88, using members' funds for personal holidays, meals, and entertainment. He manipulated the federation's petty cash system, keeping individual claims under £100 to avoid scrutiny and even claimed salary for days he did not work, including time spent watching rugby abroad.
During his sentencing, Judge Martin Jackson highlighted Harrison's "pattern of repeated abuse" and warned of the damage to public trust. Despite a prior commendation for bravery, Harrison's actions were deemed a "betrayal of trust" by authorities. He has since repaid over £16,500, including inflation, to make amends for his dishonest conduct.
