Former NFL linebacker Daron Lee was arrested on Thursday and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office announced the charges on Friday, following an incident at a home in Ooltewah, Tennessee.
First responders were called to the residence after reports of someone performing CPR on a woman. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased female victim. Detectives responded to the scene and determined the death was a homicide based on preliminary findings.
Lee, 31, who played five seasons in the NFL after a career at Ohio State, was arrested at the location. He was a first-round draft pick in 2016 by the New York Jets and also played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Las Vegas Raiders.
The victim's identity is being withheld as authorities work to notify her family. The sheriff's office indicated that additional charges could be filed as the investigation progresses. Lee remains in custody without bond, with a court hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
