A Rohtak court has convicted former INLD MLA Balbir Singh, known as Bali Pehalwan, and six other individuals in connection with the 2011 murder of Vishnu. The verdict was pronounced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Kapil Rathi.
Vishnu, from Nigana village, was killed on May 6, 2011, during an altercation at the Kalanaur grain market. Police had filed a case naming 18 individuals, including charges of murder and conspiracy.
The dispute was reportedly related to a confrontation involving associates of Pehalwan, with accounts suggesting demands for protection money or a dispute over fodder collection.
The case garnered attention when residents of Pehalwan's village allegedly hindered his arrest, with some reportedly armed. Pehalwan surrendered later and spent approximately seven years in jail before being granted bail.
Two of the initial 18 accused have died during the trial, and two others were acquitted. The prosecution presented 51 witnesses, including eyewitnesses and medical personnel, to build its case.
