Summary
- Former anchor Angelynn Mock pleaded guilty to murdering her mother.
- Mock faces life in prison with parole eligibility after 25 years.
- A judge found Mock incompetent, then later competent to stand trial.

Angelynn Mock, a former news anchor, has pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of her mother, Anita Avers. The fatal stabbing occurred on Halloween, October 31, 2025. Mock's plea was entered before District Court Judge Faith Johnson on Friday, August 21.
Mock faces a presumptive sentence of life imprisonment, with parole eligibility after serving 25 years. Her sentencing is scheduled for October 5 at 11 a.m. Wichita police found Avers with multiple stab wounds on Halloween morning, and Mock was arrested shortly after.
Investigators received conflicting accounts from Mock regarding the events. Initially, she claimed self-defense, stating she stabbed her mother after Avers attacked her with a knife. In another account, Mock suggested her mother was jealous of her career.
Mock's stepfather reported she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and later schizoaffective disorder. A judge had previously found her incompetent to stand trial in January, ordering treatment at Larned State Hospital. She was later deemed competent in July.
Mock previously worked as a morning anchor at KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015 and as a sports reporter at KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska, from 2002 to 2004.
