Michael Longfellow, a 67-year-old man with schizophrenia, was fatally struck on Highway 74 near Kerr Gulch Road on March 14. He was a familiar sight walking to local establishments. His body was not discovered until the afternoon of March 15, partially covered by snow from a storm that began on the night of the incident.
The Colorado State Patrol has impounded a 2010-era white sedan they believe is connected to the fatal incident. While the vehicle was found outside Evergreen, investigators are conducting forensic testing. They anticipate several weeks for results, and no charges have been filed yet, though authorities believe they know the driver.
Longfellow was well-loved in the Evergreen area. His friends at Starbucks plan to honor him with a plaque at his favorite table, and a customer is funding a bench outside. A memorial gathering is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, at the Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park.
