A serving Essex Police officer has denied assaulting a woman by beating. The 52-year-old officer, Lee Mullen, entered his plea at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Mullen was arrested on 29 September following reports of an altercation in Elmstead Market earlier that day. It is alleged that a woman was pushed to the floor during an argument. The officer, who lives in Colchester, was off duty when the incident took place.
Essex Police confirmed that Mullen has been suspended from duty. He has been released on unconditional bail, and his case is scheduled for a further hearing at the same court on 2 December 2026.
