An enforcement officer with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in Patiala, Shubham Tyagi, was arrested by the CBI on July 22, 2026, for allegedly accepting a bribe. The arrest followed a complaint by Harshit Jindal, an EPF compliance consultant, regarding a pending inquiry for his client, Karampal Gir. Tyagi reportedly demanded Rs 4,00,000 to submit a favorable report and close the inquiry with minimal penalties.
After verification of the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught Tyagi red-handed accepting Rs 2.5 lakh on the evening of July 22, 2026. The accused was produced before the Chandigarh CBI Court and subsequently sent to 14 days of judicial custody. The agency sought custody, citing the initial stage of investigation and the potential for the accused to influence witnesses or tamper with evidence.
