According to the authorities, the elderly victim was killed by the two suspects on suspicion that he practiced witchcraft. The man had gone missing on the night of September 30th, when he had gone to guard his agricultural field and did not return home.
Last Friday, the skeleton of the victim was discovered in the Chandaka forest sanctuary area. The deceased was identified as Balram Deogam by his son, based on a neck ornament found with the remains.
The accused individuals have confessed to the crime during police interrogation. They allegedly killed Deogam, buried his body in the jungle, and disposed of his belongings in a nearby pond.
This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of superstition and violence against the elderly in parts of India. Authorities are now investigating the case further to ensure justice for the victim and his family.
