Tragically, the body of an 85-year-old grandfather has been found approximately 30 miles from his home, ten days after he was kidnapped and tortured. Police discovered human remains near Linwood Golf Club in Pitt Town, marking a grim end to the investigation. Investigators suspect the grandfather, from Sydney, Australia, was abducted on February 13 in a bungled kidnapping due to mistaken identity. He was allegedly forced into an SUV from his North Ryde home by masked intruders.
Evidence suggests he was then taken to a property in Dural, where he was beaten and forced to film a hostage video circulated within New South Wales' underworld. Police have identified a "makeshift stronghold" at an abandoned Dural property as a potential location where he was held. A grey Toyota Corolla, believed to be stolen and used in the kidnapping, was later found burnt out in Westmead.
The intended target of the kidnapping was reportedly Dimitri Stepanyan, a figure with a criminal past. The kidnappers apparently targeted a relative of Stepanyan, who previously lived on the same street as the victim. The family of the intended target realized the error upon receiving the hostage video and alerted the kidnappers to their mistake. Police are continuing their efforts to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
