15 Nov
Summary
- Elderly couple Kanu Munda (66) and Gauri Devi (60s) killed
- Assailants locked neighboring houses to prevent help
- Police investigating all possible angles, including witch hunting

In a tragic incident that has shocked the Khunti district of Jharkhand, an elderly couple was found murdered in their home on November 13th, 2025. The victims, Kanu Munda (66) and his wife Gauri Devi (also in her 60s), were residents of Ladup village under the Maranghada police station limits.
According to the police, the unidentified assailants had locked the front doors of the neighboring houses in the village to prevent anyone from coming out and hearing the shouts of the victims. The locals only raised the alarm and informed the authorities on the following day, November 14th, 2025, after finding themselves locked inside their own homes.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that Kanu and Gauri were killed using a sharp weapon. While the police are exploring all possible angles, they suspect that this could be a case of witch hunting, a practice that still persists in some parts of the region.
"All possible angles are being investigated," said Khunti SP Manish Toppo, as the search for the perpetrators continues. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the need for greater awareness and action against such heinous crimes in the area.
