An alleged home invasion on a remote Northern Tablelands property early Thursday morning resulted in life-threatening injuries for an elderly couple and the shooting of the suspected intruder. Around 12:15 AM, a 34-year-old man is accused of forcing entry into the Torrington home of a 75-year-old man and his 72-year-old wife.
The intruder allegedly stabbed the woman in the chest and slashed the man across the abdomen. Police report the homeowner then armed himself with a knife, wounding the younger man who retreated outside. As the suspect attempted to re-enter the house, the homeowner reportedly discharged a firearm, striking the intruder in the stomach.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, arrived to find the couple severely wounded. They received initial treatment at the scene before being airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
