Caregiver Accused of Stealing Home, Dad's Fortune

A devastating accusation of elder abuse has emerged involving a caregiver in South Carolina who allegedly defrauded a 75-year-old man. The victim's daughter claims the caregiver physically abused her father, stole approximately $27,000, and coerced him into signing over his $300,000 home for a mere $5.

The daughter, Nora Rowland, only discovered the extent of the alleged crimes and her father's death three days after it occurred. She had been preparing to move him to Maryland when she learned his home was no longer in his name and his finances were depleted. The caregiver had reportedly moved the father into a senior facility, then into his own home, while Rowland's father's condition deteriorated, with records describing him as 'emaciated'.

Legal proceedings are ongoing, with the daughter in a state of limbo as the caregiver continues to reside in the stolen home, and Rowland bears the property tax burden. Police in Horry County, South Carolina, have only recently begun their investigation into the civil complaint filed by Rowland.
